What is wilson silverleaf? We're organitarians; it's best for our bodies and the planet. We cloth diapered Nina for the same reason. We drive a hybrid car & wish we could afford solar panels on our house. I'm a strong advocate for homebirth, full-time mom, & also a movie junkie. We don't have a tv though; we watch dvds on our computer. We love contradancing. I garden & knit; Larry's a puzzle lover & plays fantasy football.

wild kingdom in my backyard

First it was the raccoon, then a family of rats that I evicted from the compost pile last week, then a swarm of bees that moved into my sycamore tree (welcome guests, I love bees), now this morning I saw what seems to be a Cooper's Hawk (it was a raptor of some kind and the right size and colors to be a Cooper's hawk) in the sycamore tree. Sorry I didn't get a pic, but it might be the first time I saw a raptor that close not in captivity. It flew away before I was done looking at it (is there some sort of camera implant I can have so that I don't miss moments like this?).

My mom has a family of coopers hawks in her neighborhood. Unfortunately, they are killing off the song birds in the area. Grrrrr.

But that is likely who you saw... they're somewhat common 'round these parts.

yeah, we saw one recently in our backyard but it was hiding just so in the trees so that when I took the picture we couldn't actually see the bird. i'm pretty sure it was a cooper's, not a red tail, maybe something else but i studies my bird chart pretty well.

I've never seen something like that just sitting around - I'd be too amazed to think of the camera until too late, too.

Yeah, sounds like our yard. Deer, squirrels, raccoons, woodchucks, bees (kept ones), birds, a stray cat, and the occasional skunk are all regulars. It's good to be so much closer to all of this that Oak Park.

Hi by the way!
